Intro to Iyengar Yoga
Sam Merkur, Founder of Yogabodii is a Certified Yoga Instructor and is here to proudly introduce the Iyengar style of Yoga. Samantha is Iyengar inspired and teaches Hatha Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar and has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture and breath control.
In this segment Sam introduces us to the Iyengar methodology of Yoga and some of the reasons why it is different than other styles of Yoga. She explains how the practice can be assisted with traditional or household props to help gain full benefits of each pose. Everyday items such as stools, chairs, desks, the floor and walls can be used to feel the maximum benefits of a pose. Second, in Iyengar Yoga it is the meditation in action that allows our mind and body to connect. The meditation becomes part of your practice as you are going through each motion with extreme detail to moving your muscles and focusing inward on the body. Finally, in Iyengar yoga there is a proven Art and Science behind the sequencing of poses to gain maximum holistic benefits.
