Understanding Whole Grains
Clinical Nutritionist Josh Gitalis of www.JoshGitalis.com helps us in understanding whole grains. There are 3 parts to a whole grain. The Fibre/Bran that coats the outer part of the grain, the Germ and the Endosperm. When eaten in it’s whole form it helps our metabolism of the grain so we absorb it slowly and properly. If we eat it broken down, as in white flour and white flour products, our body breaks it down too quickly and we do not derive all the natural benefits of consuming it in it’s whole natural state. Therefore whenever possible, for best health benefits look for products that contain whole grains.
